Title progress with Scottsdene deed delivery

Two Scottsdene families are the most recent beneficiaries of the title deeds of their homes as part of the City’s ongoing title deed handover campaign. The Deed to Door campaign, which is taking place across the metro, has been ongoing for more than a year as the City works hard to create more homeowners by handing out deeds to residents in their neighbourhoods, providing security of tenure and contributing to financial stability. These visits formed part of Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis’s Service Blitz initiative, which took a range of services directly to residents.
Mayor Hill-Lewis and the Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Carl Pophaim, visited residents who have become owners of their units as part of the City’s unique home-ownership ‘No Cost Transfer’ programme.
‘With each title deed we transfer, the City is bringing about significant change for the people living in our communities. We have been working through our initial database of thousands of deeds which are waiting to be linked to their owners and are handing over as many as possible. We've been going door to door in communities across the metro, handing out title deeds and continuing our home ownership journey.
‘We know that some of our residents may find it challenging to visit a housing office. For this reason, we are providing residents with our resources and services directly. We can't wait to interact with many more residents. We are excited to begin the next step of this programme in the next few weeks. Watch us on this journey as we build Cape Town, Together,’ said Councillor Pophaim.
If you or a family member is a beneficiary of a City unit without a title deed, here's what you need to do:
• Visit us at a roadshow event or at the Cape Town Civic Centre, 2nd Floor Human Settlements Kiosk on Monday to Friday between 09:00 to 12:00.
• Have the following documents ready:
Owner ID and spouse ID (if applicable)
Marriage certificate (if applicable)
In the event of a death, provide a Letter of Authority and Death Certificate
The title deed email request must include the following information:
Subject: Erf number and Area
Body of the email:
• Name and Surname: (The name in which the title deed is registered)
• ID number
• Address
National criteria for applying for a housing subsidy through the City of Cape Town:
• You have to be over the age of 18.
• You cannot own any other property or have previously owned property.
• You must be married or living with a partner, or single with financial dependants (who are able to prove their dependency).
• If you are 60 years of age or older or if you are disabled you may apply as a single person.
• You have to be a South African citizen, or must have a permanent residence permit.
• You must be legally competent to sign a contract.
• You cannot apply if you receive a national government housing subsidy already or if you are married to someone who does.
